Skills & Competencies:

  • Monitor SQL Servers and proactively resolve issues.
  • Performance tuning (Index tuning and Query tuning).
  • Develop HA/DR strategies, and monitor and maintain them. (Cluster, Mirroring, AlwaysOn, Replication, Log Shipping).
  • Securing data and access to SQL Server.
  • Use SSIS to import data, write calculation Stored Procedures/Views and export data back out.
  • Be on-call for emergency coverage in rotation with several other DBA’s.
  • When on-call, Respond to text messages within 1 hour.
  • Demonstrate advanced technical and T-SQL programming skills.
  • Architect and Design new and existing databases and tables.

  • Design, implement, and maintain data warehouses/ODS systems using SQL Server Replication, SSIS, SSAS, and T-SQL scripting
  • Work with business stakeholders to create and maintain reports in SSRS using relational & SSAS data sources

Help Desk Technician/Dispatcher Job Description (Remote)

Wanted: ​Help Desk Technician/Dispatcher Job Description (Remote)​​​

Objective: The objective of the Help Desk Technician/Dispatcher is to improve SQLWatchmen, Inc.’s efficiency and customer experience, while also balancing out our Database Administrator’s workloads.

Role/Position: This role is a support position which is technical in nature, to the DBA staff. SQLWatchmen created the Help Desk Technician/Dispatcher role to help us deliver great service to our customers, while allowing our DBA staff to focus exclusively on the right DBA tasks.  DBA tasks will need to be appropriately assigned to a DBA with the proper skillset and also scheduled based on priority/urgency of the issue. 

The Help Desk Technician/Dispatcher should log in early enough in the work day to properly and completely review the Help Desk and Server Alerts service board in our ticketing system (ConnectWise Manage) and review emails. The review of these boards will be the primary focus throughout your work day as tickets come in. It is critical that the Help Desk Technician/Dispatcher maintain control and have a full understanding of each of the tickets on these ticket boards.

A typical day will include the following tasks:

  • Scheduling: Assign and schedule new tickets continually throughout the day, starting with any tickets that came in overnight. Ensure work is always properly assigned to the most appropriate person, summaries, descriptions and other attributes are constantly up to date, and which may change as aspects of the tasks get completed or change.
  • Ticket Triage: Change the ticket details to reference the correct agreement, configuration, status, billable or unbillable status and other properties.
  • Ticket Workflow: Follow up on tickets after work has been done by a DBA, to ensure if can be closed.​ If the ticket is not in a complete or closed status, ensure the next steps are noted in the ticket.
  • Budget Communication: Review actual time vs. budgeted time and request updates form DBA staff and communicate that as needed to customers.

The Help Desk Technician/Dispatcher position also acts as a conduit between the customers the service team and administration department. The main support tool used for this function is ConnectWise Manage. It is vital that all interactions, phone calls, conversations and emails either be generated through, or documented in, ConnectWise.

The person chosen for this position will have excellent qualities and attributes within the following: Interpersonal and communication skills, time management and prioritizing, will be courteous and professional, will have a strong work ethic with a desire to excel within this position, and have a passion for technology. 

There are opportunities for growth within the SQLWatchmen, Inc. organization. By design, the Help Desk Technician/Dispatcher role fosters any easy promotion to other aspects of our technical team (Database Administration, SQL Developer, internal IT) or the project management team. However, to be considered for an open position on either of these teams, a Help Desk Technician/Dispatcher must have completed a full 6 months within this role. 

Job requirements:

  • Detail oriented and able to multi-task.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and able to learn new software easily.
  • Type 25 wpm.
  • Enthusiastic team player who can also work well independently.​
  • Able to work full time (8am – 5pm M-F)
